Two Men Have Created The Entire Country Of Denmark In Minecraft

by Matt Helgeson on Apr 24, 2014 at 03:40 PM

Simon Kokkendorf and Thorbjørn Nielsen, two enterprising Danes, have recreated their homeland in the virtual world of Minecraft.

According to a report from the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, translated by Polygon, Kokkendorf and Nielsen, who work for the Danish Geodata Agency, based their Minecraft model of Denmark on public data and maps.

Using this data, the entire country of Denmark was recreated on a 1:1 ratio inside of Minecraft, making it the first country to be entirely mapped in the game. Pretty impressive. Watch the video below for a tour.

Our Take:
In many ways, Minecraft might be the definitive game of the past five years. It's emphasis on user-created content, flexibility, and grassroots funding model, it's a game that's obviously struck a nerve with gamers all over the world. However, after this, it appears that the Danes might be able to claim to be the world's biggest Minecraft fans.
