Amazon Game Studios Shows Off Upcoming Games, Launches Sev Zero
To go along with the announcement of its media-streaming/Android console hybrid Fire TV device, Amazon is ramping up its game development business.
Amazon Game Studios' first big announcement is Sev Zero, a new game that's available now on the Amazon App store. It's a graphically impressive title that blends the shooter and tower defense genres in a familiar-looking sci-fi world. The game costs $6.99 on its own and comes free with a purchase of the Fire TV's Amazon Fire Game Controller ($39.99).
The company has many other titles in development, and also released a sizzle reel of highlights from some of its upcoming games.
Our Take:
This new focus on game development shows Amazon's commitment to the Fire TV, but it's also a much more risky business than the retail model the company is experienced in. It will be interesting to see how these games do in critical and commercial terms.
