Grand Theft Auto V Coming To New York Film Festival

by Tim Turi on Sep 27, 2013 at 01:18 PM

Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V has received vast success both commercially and critically. It raked in $1 billion in its first three days, and currently holds a 97 on Metacritic. GTA V’s recognition is extending beyond the realm of video games into the New York Film Festival this weekend. Rockstar will be holding discussion panels and a live concert at this year’s gathering.

GTA V is being featured in the festival’s Convergence Program. Two panels are being held, one which discusses GTA V’s storytelling, development, and juggling three protagonists. There’s also a paid live concert of the game’s score, featuring composers Tangerine Dream, The Alchemist, Woody Jackson, and Oh No. A free-to-the-public event celebrating GTA V’s music will also be held, moderated by Pitchfork Media’s Ryan Schreiber.

This isn’t the first time a Rockstar title has been featured at a film festival. L.A. Noire was an official selection for the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Learn more about GTA V’s presence at the New York Film Festival here, and purchase tickets here.

Our Take:
Grand Theft Auto V is an incredible achievement, not only in video games but media in general. The cleverly woven story, incredibly original and licensed soundtrack, and staggering technical prowess makes it something to behold and celebrate. I’m happy to see the game get all the recognition it deserves, especially at an event not only catered to video game fans.
