Microsoft Acquires Home Entertainment Start Up

Microsoft has acquired id8 Group R2 Studios Inc. – a digital home entertainment startup founded by Blake Krikorian, one of the co-founders of Slingbox.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Krikorian and a small group of developers will join the company and bring along some of their patents related to controlling electronic devices. Krikorian's previous creation – the Slingbox – lets you watch content from your home TV anywhere on a separate device.

Krikorian's start-up was wooed by Microsoft, along with Apple and Google.

The addition of Krikorian is no doubt a part of the Microsoft's larger strategy to expand the media content services of its Xbox home consoles.
