Sony Cleared Of Wrongdoing In PSN Security Class-Action Lawsuit

U.S. district judge Anthony Battaglia has dismissed most of a class-action lawsuit aimed at Sony regarding last year's PSN hack.
Courthouse News Service reports seven of eight motions were thrown out in the lawsuit, which claimed that Sony negligently failed to provide adequate online safeguards. Judge Battaglia noted that Sony's privacy policy clearly states that it's not perfect, therefore "no reasonable consumer could have been deceived."
He further states that users' data was taken as part of a criminal intrusion, and the since the original complaint did not charge that Sony was involved in the criminal act itself, there would be no bailment charges. The judge also says that the company is not in violation of any consumer protection laws since "none of the named plaintiffs subscribed to premium PSN services, and thus received the PSN services free of cost."
