Old Microsoft Patent Reveals Abandoned Plans For A Console With DVR
The Xbox 360 is all about streaming television content directly to you (and playing those video game things), but at one time that plan may have been to allow gamers to record television like a traditional DVR straight to their consoles.
An old patent discovered by Tomsguide.com that was filed about a year after the release of the Xbox 360 shows that Microsoft wanted gamers to able to record telelvision while they were playing a game, watching videos, and even while the console was turned off.
I actually really like the idea of being able to take advantage of DVR functionality on my console. I especially like the idea of recording requested shows while playing a game. It doesn't seem as though Microsoft will pursue this considering the robust television offerings available through the Zune marketplace, but I still think it would be pretty cool.
