Square Enix Creating Original Action RPG

by Jim Reilly on Nov 29, 2011 at 06:14 AM

Square Enix is using Unreal Engine 3 technology to develop a new action RPG for consoles.

This news comes from an interview in Famitsu magazine with Dragon Quest IX producer Ryutaro Ichimura, who says he's working on multiple projects in addition to this unnamed title. Ichimura says the game's platforms have not been finalized, either, and even suggests it may be moved to next-generation consoles.

Ichimura also adds the game is being developed for a worldwide audience in mind, which represents a challenge for Japanese developers. The current staff on the project is made up of 35 people, but it's expected the team will grow in the coming months.

Earlier this month, Epic Games announced it signed a deal with Square Enix to license Unreal Engine 3 for multiple projects.
