[Update]: Kinectimals Invade Windows Mobile, FAO Schwarz

by Jeff Marchiafava on Oct 26, 2011 at 09:29 AM

[Update]: Hold onto your virtual kitties. Microsoft has just informed us that Kinectimals for Windows Phone is "soft launching" today, and won't be available to the public until November 2. Looks like we'll be chained to our televisions for a little while longer.

[Original Story]: Do you love Kinectimals so much that you can't leave your house because it hurts to be apart from your fluffy digital pets for even one minute? Then you need help. Luckily, Microsoft has the solution: a Windows Mobile version of the game that you can take on the go.

The Windows Mobile version of Kinectimals is now available from the Windows Phone Marketplace for $2.99. This new version eschews the Kinect controls of the original and uses touchscreen controls for interacting with your pet. Wait a minute, if it doesn't use Kinect, shouldn't it be called Touchscreenimals?

The Windows Phone version comes with five new types of feline, including the Tiglon and Scimitar Cat. Before you get too excited, a Scimitar Cat is not a cat wielding a Middle Eastern sword, but rather a genus of the saber-toothed cat, which is still pretty cool.

Microsoft also announced that you can snag a limited-edition FAO Schwarz bear bundled with Kinectimals Now With Bears at FAO Schwarz in NYC and Toys "R" Us stores throughout the rest of the country. The bundle will cost you $60, and the stuffed animal will unlock a matching in-game character. If that's not enough fantasy pet companionship for you, there's just no pleasing you.
