Weekend Warrior 10/07/11

by Ben Reeves on Oct 07, 2011 at 02:00 PM

The weekend is among us! Game Informer staffers share their weekend gaming plans. You should do the same in the comments section!

Jeff Akervik: With the NHL and collegiate hockey season starting in earnest this weekend, I won't be spending as much time gaming as I'd like to. That, and a trip up north will eat into what little free time I'll have. Regardless, I'm hoping to put whatever time I can into trying to polish off Red Dead Redemption. That game has been bogging me down for quite some time – and mostly in a good way. I'm itching to get her finished off since I've got Deus Ex: Human Revolution waiting in the wings. But at the pace I'm going, it will be a long, long time. Such is life…

Jeff Cork: Finally, I have some free time. I’ve spent the past few weeks either moving into our new house, settling into our new house, or working from home. The next few days are open, and I’m going to go out of my way to make sure I have some time to play a few games. Whew. First, I’m going to check out some more Dark Souls. I played it for a few hours last night, and I still don’t quite get what I’m supposed to be doing. I guess it’s fun or something (?!). Then I may play Kinectimals: Now with Bears with my kids. The best part? Our couch hasn’t been delivered yet, so I get to play games super old school. In other words, I’ll be sitting on the floor, staring up at my giant TV. Maybe I’ll cook some Pizza Rolls for old-times’ sake.

Kyle Hilliard: Despite having a number of unpacked boxes lingering in my living room, and a kitchen that is still mostly unusable, my wife and I got the video game consoles set up and are planning some co-op gaming. The Portal 2 DLC is a priority, and possibly some Dead Island. I have only felled one colossus in Shadow of the Colossus HD, so I need to jump back on that, too. Those boxes can wait.

Tim Turi: All I want to do this weekend is play Rage, The Binding of Isaac, and Resident Evil 4. Despite these great new releases, I also want to dust off the original Max Payne on Steam after seeing Max Payne 3 in action at the office. I miss the gritty narration and moody music from that series. Hopefully I can solve the sound issues plaguing the Steam version of Max Payne. God knows I don’t want to play the clunky PS2 version again.

Andrew Reiner: Most of my weekend is going to Dark Souls. I started out playing as a sorcerer, but I think I’m going to try out the soldier class before getting too deep into the game. The sorcerer’s lock-on attack is too inconsistent for a game like this. When I die, I want it to be from something I did wrong, not a magic blast flying off in the wrong direction even though I’m locked onto the target. Outside of this game, I’m going to the Vikings game on Sunday with Dan, Tim, and Hanson, and will also be rehearsing Tripping Icarus’ set numerous times for our upcoming show with Far From Falling.

Ben Hanson: Between the zombie pub crawl and going to a Vikings game, this weekend won’t leave too much time for games. When I can find the time I’ll continue playing through Orcs Must Die on Xbox. The main reason I bought the game is that the developer (Robot Entertainment) is made up of a lot of people from the old Ensemble Studios, the creators of Age of Empires. I’m enjoying the game quite a bit so far, even though I’ve never been a big fan of tower defense games. I’ll probably continue playing Space Marine and Age of Empires Online on my PC as well.

Jeff Marchiafava: This weekend I plan to play more Dark Souls, as frustrating as it is. I’ve got a trip to The Depths coming up, along with some place called Blight Town, which can’t be good. If I end up pulling my hair out and quitting in frustration, I’ll probably cool off with Rock Band 3 and Pinball FX 2.

Phil Kollar: DARK SOOOOOULS. How many weeks since I got my hands on this absurdly difficult and huge RPG, and I’m still obsessed! I’ll be digging into more of that this weekend, checking out Rage, and maybe taking a teensy look at an upcoming MMO that I may or may not have snuck into the beta for. SECRETS.
