More People Playing Black Ops Than Gears 3
Major Nelson's latest chart, detailing the number of active players on Xbox Live for the week of September 19, has the excellent Gears of War 3 debuting at number 2. Still the king: Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops. Seriously, haven't you guys prestiged like six times already?
Also of note in the chart is the Xbox Live Arcade list. Burnout Crash, the well-received downloadable top-down car wrecker, couldn't take out Portal: Still Alive for the number one spot either. Charming puzzler Ilomilo is hanging on at number 5, and Bastion is all the way down at 15. Sales like the recent puzzle game discount apparently have a huge effect on active XBLA player counts.
Games for Windows Live has Age of Empires Online sitting strong at number one, and then a bunch of games that probably have like 15 people each playing them because the service is so terrible and/or their spouse wanted to watch something on Netflix streaming on the 360 and it logged them out of GFWL and nuked their unsaved progress. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate GFWL? Because it's awful, and I only put up with it because I am weak and have a soft spot for AOEO's old-school RTS charms.
