EA And Virgin Gaming Giving Away $1.6 Million To Expert Battlefield 3 Players

by Phil Kollar on Sep 27, 2011 at 12:15 PM

Activision recently gave away $1 million in prizes at the Call of Duty XP event for skilled tournament players. Clearly EA is looking to compete with that popular franchise on all levels with its upcoming Battlefield 3, so the publisher has teamed up with Virgin Gaming for an online tournament that will be rewarding $1.6 million to the best players.

The Battlefield 3 competition will be a worldwide, online tournament, so virtually anyone can compete. If you want to sign up and get full details, check out the Virgin Gaming website devoted to the game. The tournament begins in 2012, well after the game's October 25 release, so you'll have plenty of time to practice. The finale will be broadcast live, although EA and Virgin haven't yet revealed where one might be able to watch this showdown.

So who's planning to throw their hat in the ring for a chunk of that $1.6 million?
