Tetris Meets Minecraft Meets Cute Platformer In Microsoft Dream, Build, Play Winner

by Phil Kollar on Aug 29, 2011 at 11:30 AM

Microsoft has picked out a Dream, Build, Play winner for 2011, granting a single winner from the Xbox Live Indie Games channel a whopping $40,000 in cash. This year's winner combines a seemingly random bunch of gameplay styles into something surprisingly awesome.

Blocks That Matter is a cutesy puzzle platformer created by Guillaume Martin. In the game, players control a tiny robot that can drill away at blocks or collect them and create Tetris shapes elsewhere in the level to help him progress. In addition to the nice check, Martin now has the option to turn his indie game into a proper Xbox Live Arcade release.

Runner-ups this year include a space sim called Solar 2, an adventure title called TIC: Part 1, and an RPG/rhythm game mash-up titled Sequence. Each of these winners received cash prizes as well. Check out the Dream, Build, Play website for full details.
