Weekend Warrior 08/26/11
The weekend has arrived! Yay! We've got a couple editors out at PAX, and we're putting the finishing touches on the October issue of the magazine, but we'll also be spending some quality time playing video games this weekend. Read our plans below and share your own in the comments.
Tim Turi: This weekend I’ll be continuing my arduous trek through the droves of undead in Dead Island. I also recently downloaded Deus Ex: Human Revolution for my PC, and I’d like to keep playing it (that is, if my computer can handle it). On top of that I’m going to a Death Cab for Cutie concert, which should be interesting because I know nothing about them and only listen to metal, '80s music, and video game soundtracks. Wish me luck.
Jeff Marchiafava: This weekend I’ll be playing more Dead Island with some of the guys from the office. To help Tim out with his review, that is. Not for my own personal enjoyment. I’ll also check out the new Ms. Splosion Man table for Pinball FX 2, if only to dash Jeff Cork’s hopes of stealing a top score from me. Beyond that, I’ll probably go to the State Fair and do a ton of yard work. Hopefully not in that order.
Jeff Akervik: I'm still taking my sweet time enjoying Ocarina of Time on my 3DS. That's mainly due to the fact that it's my favorite game of all time, but also because there's absolutely nothing worth playing on the system. Good times. I'm also hoping to sneak in a little more time with Red Dead Redemption, but with the Minnesota State Fair well underway, most of my weekend will be spent people watching and binging. What better way to spend a weekend?
Phil Kollar: I've been desperate for some free time to play video games for weeks. Between Gamescom, other travel, and finishing work on my first cover story, I've either been gone or too tired to play anything. That all changes this weekend. I just got a download code for Rock of Ages from Atlus. I've been eager to play this quirky XBLA game ever since I checked it out at E3, so I'll definitely be spending some time with that. I'm also hoping to continue my strangely fractured playthrough of Infamous 2. I'm loving the game, I just wish I had more time to spend with it!
Matt Helgeson: I've been wrapped up in Portal 2 lately. I started and stopped it earlier in the year because I got distracted, but I'm loving it now and want to finish. I'm also starting to watch Lost for the first time on Netflix. Hoping to try to finish it this weekend. Also, just going to try to enjoy the nice weather we've been having and hopefully going on a bike ride. I live a very exciting life and now I'm sure you are glad you read this.
Matt Miller: I'm partway into the craziness of El Shaddai, and that will likely get some more of my attention this weekend. Seriously, that game is crazy. As in, insane asylum, lock-it-up-and-throw-away-the-key crazy. Thinking about finally digging in on Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet as well — it's the only Summer of Arcade release that hasn't gotten my full attention quite yet. Also, I'm strangely entranced by Contre Jour, so I may try to explore a little more of that charming little game.
Ben Reeves: I'm touring the show floor at PAX in Seattle. Be sure to check out our coverage of the show all weekend. I'll be playing a lot of games, walking a lot of miles, and considering sleeping.
That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend?
