Weekend Warrior 08/19/11
You can try to keep up with all the news coming out of Gamescom this year in Germany or go to the theater to watch Fright Night and Conan the Barbarian, or go do your own thing. Honestly, who’s stopping you?
Reiner: This weekend I'm going to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution for a second time. I completed the game a month ago on a debug and now I'm going to approach it in a completely different way on the retail build. I favored stealth in my first playthrough. This one will lean on gun play and special attacks. Outside of this, I'm going to see Fright Night tomorrow night. Should be an interesting next three days…
Matthew Kato: I'm going to be putting my finishing touches on my Madden NFL 12 review, and use some time this weekend to look under a few more rocks of the game. People make fun of sports games because they come out every year, but from a reviewer's perspective, there is a huge amount of ground to cover. Tons of modes, simulations to perform, gameplay AI to test, etc. It's a task. I'm about an hour into Bastion, and I want to play more, so hopefully that will also happen this weekend. I'm digging it so far, and I know I've only scratched the surface. Tempted to pull something else off the shelf, but I don't want to get to distracted by something else so I can finish Bastion – especially with NHL 12 and the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection on the horizon.
Ben Reeves: I'm going to save the world...you're welcome.
Jeff Akervik: An out of town wedding has torpedoed most of my weekend, but I'll drag along my 3DS as I continue my fourth playthrough of Ocarina of Time. If I'm able to find any extra gaming time this weekend, it will be spent exploring the vast openness that is New Austin. Yep, I finally got around to playing Red Dead Redemption. Who would have thought carelessly shooting any animal that moves could prove to be so much of a time suck? Yeah, this guy. Now it's time to get my dancing shoes on for this wedding…
Jeff Marchiafava: This weekend I’m going to be teaming up with Tim Turi to play Dead Island. I’d like to say more about the game, but I’ve been sworn to secrecy under penalty of death. So there you go.
Dan Ryckert: I’ll be working news during the day, catching up on Mad Men when I get a chance, and participating in the Drinking Spelling Bee tomorrow night. Also looking forward to watching the premiere of Ben Hanson’s documentary about our Guinness record-setting Smash Bros. marathon.
Tim Turi: This weekend I’ll probably be bringing a little work home with me – Dead Island. After I’m done bashing zombie skulls in and stabbing them in the privates, I’ll probably turn on a little more Bastion. Also, every song from every Castlevania song ever has been playing on loop in my head this last month, so I’ll probably kill some monsters with a whip.
That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend?
