Xbox 360 Sales Contribute To Strong Microsoft Earnings

by Matt Helgeson on Apr 28, 2011 at 03:52 PM

Microsoft released its financial report for the fiscal quarter ending December 31, and the numbers were impressive. Beating Wall Street projections, Microsoft posted $19.95 billion in revenue on $6.63 billion in net income.

A big part of these strong earnings was due to the success of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and its Kinect motion control peripheral. Also contributing was increased sales of subscriptions to Xbox Live, which were up 30 percent over the previous year.

The other big earner for Microsoft was its business division and Microsoft Office, which has been the fastest selling version of the ubiquitous software suite.

Interesting, there was no mention of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft's mobile platform, in the report. Gee, wonder why? In any case, it looks like Microsoft's long-term bet on the gaming space has paid off handsomely.
