Final Fantasy Servers Reboot March 25
Following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan, power conservation measures were encouraged by utility companies nationwide. As such, Square Enix suspended the Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XI, and Play Online servers for an undisclosed period of time. The restoration date for these services has been determined as March 25 at 4:00 PDT.
Detailing the company’s circumstances via The Lodestone, a Square Enix representative divulged that the servers account for 11.6% of the power consumed in the Tokyo office. In order to get the servers back up and running, the office has halted air conditioning to restore 8.8%, and is engaging in other conservation methods such as reduction of lighting so to recoup and get online.
“We offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of these services, and thank you for your understanding,” reads the update. “As noted in our original notice regarding the suspension of these services, customers will not be charged any monthly fees for Final Fantasy XI throughout the April billing cycle.”
The updated warns that if conditions worsen services may be suspended again.
“We at the Square Enix group are trying to act in a proactive manner in order to provide support towards the relief and restoration efforts in the face of this unprecedented disaster while providing reliable service to our customers, and we thank you for your understanding and support.”
