The following is a disturbing – though humorous – example of what Super Mario Bros. would have sounded like if it featured a more modern effects design.

This version takes some of the charm away from the ‘80s classic, although you do get an impression for how Mario’s brutal journey would have worn on the hero. This video from virtjk apparently helped him get a job at Saints Row developer Volition. Tell your parents that it does pays to make funny videos; we're telling ours.
