Shenmue Town Coming To Smartphones?

Of all the torches held out in hope, perhaps the brightest is reserved for the return of Shenmue. While the franchise doesn't appear to be close to returning in game form any time soon, creator Yu Suzuki hopes you'll be able to get your hands on Shemue in the future.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Suzuki says he wants to bring the Japanese web portal experience of Shenmue Town to smartphones, hinting at both Android and iOS. However, Suzuki stated that before any of that can happen, "the experience definitely needs to be customized for the smartphone." Shenmue Town currently has a mobile deal in Japan, and it's unknown if Suzuki's comments refer to an extension of that deal or if he's specifically targeting a Western release.

Shenmue Town is a social space for fans with Shenmue related minigames in Ryu Hazuki's hometown of Yokosuka.
