Brand New Sega Genesis RPG Released

by Bryan Vore on Feb 28, 2011 at 04:44 AM

We're used to getting games in the mail every day, but it's been over a decade since we got anything new on Sega Genesis. Today that all changed.

A group of Sega fans who met on web forums formed a small company called Watermelon to develop a role-playing game, design the packaging, and produce the game cartridge. Five years in the making, today their game, Pier Solar and the Great Architects, arrived at our office.

We received a "classic" edition of the game that comes in a cardboard case and features all sorts of goodies. These versions already sold out, but Watermelon is offering a "reprint" version that comes in a black plastic case that looks a lot more Genesis than Mega Drive (Europe and Japan). If you still have a Genesis laying around and a Sega CD system, you can play an enhanced soundtrack to go along with the game. Check out the image gallery below to see the two editions.

The plot follows a hero named Hoston who is "a young botanist on a quest to save his father from a mysterious illness." See the game in action in the video below.

Pier Solar costs $45 in the continental U.S. The official website only takes Paypal, and copies of the game ship every 45 days.
