PlayStation Network Seemingly Has Way More Users Than Xbox Live
Many gamers think of Microsoft and their Xbox Live service as pioneering the direction that online gaming has gone in this generation, but if Sony is to be believed, there are actually now more users signed up for its competing PlayStation Network service.
Joystiq got word of the impressive new numbers via the Sony press conference at CES. During the event, Sony CEO Howard Stringer said that 60 million PSN accounts have been created. This is compared to 25 million accounts 30 million accounts (both free and Gold) on Xbox Live as of last November tonight.
One important distinction that Joystiq notes is that these PSN figures include users on the PSP as well as people who have made a PlayStation Network account online without necessarily tying it to a console or handheld. Still, that's a fairly large and surprising lead over Microsoft's service.
