Sega To Celebrate Sonic's 20th Anniversary With New Projects

by Matt Helgeson on Jan 03, 2011 at 08:15 AM

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Sega's iconic platform hero Sonic the Hedgehog, and the company is planning to commemorate it with a number of "new projects."

Japanese gaming blog Andriasang is reporting that a press release from Sega of Japan says that a number of different projects are in the works, but it is not specific as to what those projects are. We're sure that more Sonic games is a given -- Sega's not one to let a year go by without a healthy dose of Sonic -- but it could also indicate some promotional events or anniversary celebrations. Sega has also put up a Japanese Sonic 20th Anniversary website.

Either way, here's wishing the lil' blue furball a happy birthday.

It's also the 20th anniversary of Puyo Puyo, which -- no disrespect -- really doesn't seem like that big of a deal.
