[Update] NSFW Things That Shouldn't Exist: Kinect Sex Game
It was bound to happen, but that doesn't mean I'm not deeply disappointed to see that it exists: Someone is making a sex game using Microsoft's Kinect technology.
This project was brought to my attention by G4 -- no, I do not spend my every waking moment searching "Kinect" and "sex game" on YouTube in hopes of finding something. The G4 post also has a video, but I'll spare you having to see it and give you the only details you need: Some pervert uses Kinect to grope a bunch of plastic-y virtual women. The "game" in question is being created ThriXXX Games and will be released in 2011 for Windows 7 PCs, but you didn't need to know that, because you're a better person than to buy this game.
Look, I'm not a prude. I'm all about pushing the industry forward with sexuality in games. I'm psyched to play Catherine, after all. But this is gross. I'm going to go take a shower now. Ugh.
[Update]
Microsoft has now issued an official statement on the game, clearly distancing itself from the title.
"This isn't the first example of a technology being used in ways not intended by its manufacturer, and it won't be the last," the company said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "Microsoft did not authorize or license its technology for this use. Xbox is a family friendly games and entertainment console and does not allow Adults Only (AO) content to be certified for use on its platform, and would not condone this type of game for Kinect."
In other words, "Hey, it wasn't us."
