Who’s Left For Marvel Vs. Capcom 3?
It’s been a long year for Marvel vs. Capcom fans, many of which have been crossing their fingers and lighting candles in hopes that their favorite character would join the MvC 3’s roster. With the game’s February release fast approaching there are only so many slots left. Is your favorite character going to make the cut?
Andriasang recently translated an interview that Famitsu conducted with Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer Ryota Niitsuma, in which Niitsuma stated that the finial retail release would contain "30 + alpha characters.” Currently, 28 characters have been revealed, so at best, fans can hope for five more characters announcements from each camp. Let’s take a look at some of the more likely candidates and our top choices for the final roster.
Quick recap of announced Marvel characters:
Captain America
Deadpool
Doctor Doom
Dormammu
Hulk
Iron Man
Magneto
M.O.D.O.K.
She-Hulk
Shuma-Gorath (DLC)
Spider-Man
Super-Skrull
Thor
Wolverine
X-23
Marvel characters we’d still like to see in the game:
Thing
Sure, we know that the Super-Skrull is in the game, but the Fantastic Four has still been largely under-appreciated in the MvC games in the past. Who better to fill that gap than the ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing?
Luke Cage
We can’t blame Capcom for passing over Luke Cage in the past, but since the last game, this New Avengers leader has really come into his own as he’s become a more pivotal character in the Marvel U.
Daredevil
Blind lawyer Matt Murdock has never been one of Marvel’s heavy hitters, but if Capcom keeps this character far away from Ben Affleck, we think Daredevil’s acrobatics and martial arts mastery would make a fantastic addition to the game.
Carnage
MvC 3’s roster could use a few more villains. We’ve already played as Venom in previous games, but we’d like to see how much destruction one of his symbiotic spawns could cause. Carnage’s long-reaching tendrils would make him a great ranged fighter.
Howard the Duck
This is a dark horse for sure, but with characters like Deadpool, Sir Arthur, and She-Hulk it seems like Capcom has been going for a more humorous slant with this game. This ill-tempered talking duck could certainly add more levity to the action.
But what about Capcom characters?
Quick recap of announced Capcom characters:
Albert Wesker
Amaterasu
Arthur
Chris Redfield
Chun-Li
Dante
Felicia
Jill Valentine (DLC)
Morrigan Aensland
Nathan Spencer
Ryu
Trish
Tron Bonne
Viewtiful Joe
Zero
Capcom characters we’d still like to see in the game:
Akuma
It almost wouldn’t seem like a Marvel vs. Capcom game if Akuma weren’t in the game. This stronger, fireball happy version of Ken/Ryu has been featured – in some capacity – in every entry in the series, even appearing as a special boss in X-Men: Children of the Atom.
Chuck Greene
Given Dead Rising's popularity it would be strange if Capcom ignored the series. Frank West was recently in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, so we’re going to guess that Dead Rising 2 star, Chuck Greene, gets tapped for MvC 3. Just think of the alternate costume possibilities.
Phoenix Wright
People have been talking about wanting to see Phoenix Wright in the game since this fighter was first announced. Sure Phoenix Wright is a lawyer not a fighter, but we think that if he yelled “Objection!” loud enough it would stun his opponent long enough for him to gain the upper hand.
Juri
Street Fighter is pretty well represented in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, but we’d still like to see a few of the new guard cross the gap. Juri – and her creepy tongue – is not only one of the better additions to the Street Fighter cast, but we also like to see how her already wild fighting style translates into the more zany MvC universe.
Nemesis
The Capcom contingent could use a few more heavy hitters, and the bio-organic weapon who chased after Jill throughout the duration of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis hits like a ton of bricks. We’d love to play as anyone who can give a horde of zombies a run for their money.
We’d like to see any of these characters in the final game, or as DLC releases, but what about you? Who would you like to see in the final game?
