UPDATE: Yesterday we reported that Nintendo would return to CES after a 16 year hiatus. It seems that news of Nintendo's return was greatly exaggerated, however.

As reported by PCWorld, the Consumer Electronics Association, which runs CES, admitted that it mistakenly included Nintendo of America among companies exhibiting at the show. While Nintendo will be in meeting rooms behind closed doors, it will not have an exhibit on the show floor. This probably means that Nintendo will not reveal any big 3DS news during CES. We apologize to anyone who rushed out to buy tickets to the show last night in anticipation.

ORIGINAL STORY: It’s been over 16 years since Nintendo made its way out to Las Vegas for the annual Consumer Electronics Show, but this year the company is gracing everyone with its presence.

Before its long absence, Nintendo had a history of rolling out new technology for CES. In 1994, the company showed off a prototype of what would become the N64. However, for the last 16 years Nintendo has steered clear of the world’s largest consumer technology conference. With the 3DS release on the horizon, the new handheld is expected to be at the show in full force.

Perhaps Nintendo will have a special announcement or two, but we’ll have to wait until the week of January 6th to find out.
