Activision Remains Hopelessly Hopeful For Tony Hawk Shred

Tony Hawk Shred has sold terribly at retail. In its first week on sale, the game sold just 3,000 copies across all three consoles. That's so bad it must be some kind of record, but according to Activision's Eric Hirschberg, Shred's dismal opening sales don't necessarily signal a failure. Time to take some Dramamine: You're in for some heavy spin after the jump.
“There’s hopefully a method to that madness,” Hirschberg told Gamasutra, regarding the weak launch. “For the first time we’re targeting that game to kids. It’s a gift-oriented game...that said, we need to build awareness for the game still. I think you’ll hopefully see a bigger ramp-up as we get further into the gift giving season"
We'll have to wait until after Christmas to see if Activision's strategy for the series pays off, but 3,000 copies doesn't sound like Tony Hawk Shred has a different audience this time around. It sounds like it has no audience.
