Nintendo Will Talk Wii Successor When Current Installed Base Hits 45M
Sounds like the only big hardware release from Nintendo that we'll have to look forward to is the 3DS. Because the current Wii has been a success holiday after holiday, and with huge releases this year with Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and DK Country Returns, there's a chance we won't see a replacement anytime soon. According to Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime, the company is still looking to sell more Wii's before moving on to something next-gen.
"As we sit here today we're saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell," he told Kotaku. "After we've reached an installed base of 45 million here in the U.S., we can have a conversation about the next generation."
Fils-Aime says Wii sales peaked in its third year with more than 30 million Wii's in homes. When asked if we could be seeing a successor come holiday 2011, Fils-Aime replied: "No."
Do you think the Wii is about due for an upgrade? Or are you happy with what you've got?
