Weekend Warrior: Halloween 2010 Edition

by Annette Gonzalez on Oct 29, 2010 at 02:00 PM

Halloween is among us! Tell us all about your plans in the comments section!

Reiner: WARNING: Children who approach the Reiner residence in search of candy will be drenched with a garden hose. And no, this is not an act of cruelty. I'm turning Halloween into a game of tower defense. If a child can penetrate my defensive perimeter, they can grab as much candy (also known as Olive Garden breath mints) as they want. Approaching my house in a small group is suicide, kids. Gather as many youngsters as you can. Use them as shields. Do what you have to avoid the hose. Also, look out for the barbed wire.

Kato: A few weeks from now, when Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood comes out, this entry is going to be wildly different. It’ll be filled with stories of knivin’, sneakin’, recruitin’, and other tales of adventure. But that’s not now. I’m so excited for Assassin’s that the other day I was contemplating going back and playing the original Assassin’s Creed, but I don’t think that’s going to fill my current Brotherhood needs, unfortunately.

What I should do is finish Mass Effect 2’s Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC. I’ve started it already, but for the life of me I can’t get myself to finish it. And this comes from a person who was really excited when it came out. As a matter of fact, I’ve talked to a couple people in the office who feel the same way that I do – for whatever reason I can’t find anyone who’s really excited about it. Go figure.

Jeff C: This weekend’s going to be a busy one. I’m juggling Fallout: New Vegas, The Sims 3, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Pinball FX 2. Suffice it to say, I’m not expecting to get very far in any of them. Still, I’m looking forward to plopping down and wasting a whole lot of time.

Jeff M: This weekend I look forward to playing more Super Meat Boy and starting Assassin’s Creed II. I’ve got 100% on the first two worlds of Team Meat’s punishing platformer, and am close to finishing up the third one. When SMB eventually cripples my hands, I’ll switch over to Assassin’s Creed II and start terrorizing Italy, like I can only assume my ancestors did so many years ago.

Phil: This is my first weekend without work obligations in a while, so I’m hoping to get in some healthy gaming time. I’m working through Comic Jumper on XBLA – hilarious writing, but boy does the game get frustrating at times. As soon as I’m done with that, I plan to spend a lot more time with Super Meat Boy, which I’m loving the hell out of because of its absurd difficulty. Beyond downloadable stuff, I desperately need to continue my progress in both Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Fallout: New Vegas. They’re two very different games that I love for different reasons, but they both require more time and concentration than I’ve had to devote to gaming in the last couple weeks. Hoping that changes this weekend.

Tim:
It’s been a big week. I completed Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Donkey Kong Country 2, and Super Meat Boy. While I still plan on playing the bonus stages of SMB, I also need to get on my horse and finish Dead Rising 2’s overtime mode. On top of that I recently played the Enslaved demo and really liked it. I may spend some time chugging through that this weekend. In addition to that, Ben and I plan on acquiring some gold medals in Kirby’s Epic Yarn.

Sean: Halloween with the kids and Castlevania seems awful appropriate. Trick'r'Treat!

Jeff A:
Trying to finish up Darksiders while still plugging along in Chrono Trigger. I’d also like to get back into Borderlands now that I’ve got the GOTY edition. I’ll also be subjecting myself to my third (yes, third) Minnesota Gopher football game on Saturday. We play Ohio State. It’s conceivable we could lose by 30 or more points. Thankfully there’s tailgating. And then I’ll binge on candy come Sunday watching the Vikings take on the Patriots. Good times.

Annette: My love of the music game genre has been fulfilled with the release of so many great games! Playing through DJ Hero 2 this weekend as I patiently await the release of Dance Central (still need to buy Rock Band 3). As far as this weekend I plan on getting through some more Super Meat Boy (best played in small doses) and Lords of Shadow. Games!

That's it for us! What are you up to this weekend?
