Warriors Of Rock Sells 100,000 In September
It appears that Warriors of Rock never fully recovered from its bumpy start. NPD reports in its September sales data that Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock sold less than 100,000 copies combined between the PS3, 360, and Wii versions.
Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter uses the lackluster launch to illustrate a decline in sales of music games across the board. Last September sales within the music genre topped at $160 million. This September sales dropped drastically to $16 million. The massive fall in music game sales is credited for much of the industry’s downturn as a whole. In 2008 retail sales in the genre brought in over $1.66 billion. In 2009 that number fell to $876 million. It appears that the sales figures are still slipping.
Guitar Hero 5 sold nearly 500,000 copies in its debut month last year.
What to do you think? Is the industry downturn at fault here? Or are gamers hesitant to stray from the traditional Guitar Hero formula?
