EA Cancels Spielberg Game

by Matthew Kato on Oct 12, 2010 at 04:28 AM

Electronic Arts and film director Steven Spielberg made news when they announced a four-game deal back in 2005, but apart from the Boom Blox puzzle series, the video game world is still waiting to see how Spielberg's talents can transfer over to the medium. Now EA has announced that one of the pair's super-secret games – codenamed Project LMNO – has been canceled.

EA confirmed the news after ex-Project LMNO developer Jake Kazdal told podcast 8-4 Play that he suspected internal EA politics had disturbed the game. "I don't know exactly what was the thing that made it fall apart," he said. "I'm sure anybody you ask is gonna tell you something a little bit different, but it didn't end up ever taking off. There was some rival game stuff that may or may not have come out of EA that was basically the same thing minus some of the stuff we were doing. There was just a lot of politics."

EA says that despite the cancellation, it is still working with Spielberg.
