Guillermo Del Toro Working On Games With THQ, THQ Says Otherwise

by Annette Gonzalez on Sep 29, 2010 at 01:47 PM

We heard a few months back that Guillermo del Toro had an announcement to make with a big company about a game he’s been working on, but have yet to hear about what the Hellboy director has planned, until now. In a recent interview with MTV, he revealed that he is working on a couple of projects with THQ.

"We're working together," del Toro says. "Hopefully everything will come together in the next few days and we can formally announce it and so forth. But we are talking about huge games, huge world creation and long deadlines."

What kind of game could he be working on? Del Toro provides a few clues: "It's horror...but it's a very different type of horror game. It's not survival horror. It's truly a strange, geeky mix. It's a Lovecraftian thing. Let's leave it at that."

We suspect to get more details soon, but there might be a bit of a wait time as Del Toro says the first IP probably won’t ship until at least 2013.

On the THQ side, however, the company has something different to say. According to a statement released by the publisher: “At THQ, we are focused on the highest level of creative development by putting artists first. Guillermo del Toro is one of many creative artists that we respect and would be interested in working with. However, at this time, we do not have any formal announcement to make.”

Oh, just make the announcement already.
