Dead Rising 2 Zombrex Edition And High Stakes Edition Unboxing
We love smashing up zombie hordes just about as much as we love ripping open crazy special edition packages for games. So when Capcom combined our two loves by delivering copies of the High Stakes Edition and Zombrex Edition of Dead Rising 2 to the GI offices, people were excited. Here's what we found when we dug in.
We'll start with the Zombrex Edition. You should be able to find copies of this one at various retail stores for $79.99. Before opening it up...
Don't forget to check the back of the box, which looks like something we'd see in a real pharmaceutical commercial. Get used to that theme -- it carries through almost everything included in this version of the game.
Here's the actual steel case that holds the game disc.
And here's what's inside that. Below the game, you'll notice a bonus disc. In the 360 version, this addition contains the full Zombrex: Dead Rising Sun movie as well as a behind-the-scenes "Making Of" feature. Sadly, it sounds like the PS3 version only comes with the "Making Of," but we were not able to check this on our own copy.
The game is packaged with helpful instructions on how to safely administer the zombie virus antidote and help fight the undead plague.
As with any special edition worth its salt, Dead Rising 2's Zombrex Edition features this nice hardcover art book.
Take a peek inside!
But what good is all this promise of a sweet, zombie-virus-killing drug without the drug itself? No worries, Capcom has us covered there.
On second glance, I think this "auto injector" is actually a pen. That's not terribly helpful at all. At least it was made in China, where all good zombie-fighting drugs come from.
The package even includes a notepad for scribbling out prescriptions in unreadable doctor handwriting. Our current plan is to use this in some way to trick Dan into taking medication that he clearly shouldn't be on. Hilarity ensues!
Finally, the Zombrex Edition comes packaged with this "Zombrex Prospectus" brochure. Unfortunately, ours was packaged a little roughly...
Yikes. But, hey, greater goods await! Onto the High Stakes Edition!
This super-special edition of Dead Rising 2 is only purchasable through the Capcom Store, and it will set you back a hefty $89.99. Let's crack this sucker open.
Bam! You can already see some of the goodies that await peeking out. Time to dig in.
First up, we've got this Fortune City travel guide. Capcom has really gone out of their way to create a lot of bonus material to help draw us into the world of Dead Rising 2.
The pamphlet is full of ridiculous fake ads, just like you'd want. I expect to see some of these locales in-game.
More usefully, the travel guide folds out into this map of the game world.
Here's the game itself, sadly lacking the cool steel case of the Zombrex Edition. That ticket next to it contains a download code for a new "Psycho" costume.
Hidden underneath the travel guide and game is this big box. What could be inside?!
Gambling goods! Because Fortune City is like Las Vegas! And gamers like to play cards! Probably!
Here's a Jeff Cork-approved close-up of the chips in four different colors.
And a die. Not pictured here: the other three dice.
The best part of this pack is the cards themselves, which feature a gory zombie theme.
And that about wraps it up! Whether you end up going with the Zombrex Edition or the High Stakes Edition, Capcom has created two sets that should make most Dead Rising fans very happy.
So what are your thoughts? How do the Dead Rising 2 special editions stack up to other recent collector's releases? Will you be picking up one of these versions?
