Irrational's Irrepressible Infinite Ideas Infusing Internal IPs

by Adam Biessener on Sep 02, 2010 at 08:30 AM

During the prototyping phase that preceded settling on the concept for BioShock Infinite, Irrational Games came up with a bunch of ideas that didn't make their way into the game itself. Some of those prototypes are making their way into games by other 2K studios.

"There are some notions that came out of that prototype that are going to be in this game [BioShock Infinite]. And I think, from what I've heard, there's some notions that are going to be in other games too, that came out of this prototype," Irrational boss and BioShock creator Ken Levine told 1up in an interview. "That doesn't actually mean that much because the work is actually doing it and polishing it, but it was a cool idea and we're happy to see it live on."

Is it surprising to anyone that the Irrational's castoff ideas are interesting enough to spark creativity in other projects as well? Having seen BioShock Infinite in action, I can firmly say that this isn't shocking to me in the least.
