Beijing Dev Working On Ebox To Rival Microsoft's Kinect
Lenovo, a China-based PC maker, is looking to jump into the motion control market with a device of its own. Lenovo Group, Legend Holdings, and Legend Capital invested in a new company, Beijing eedoo Technology Ltd to rival the big three: Microsoft, Nintendo, and PlayStation. How does the company plan on doing so? By releasing the Ebox. Seriously.
The Ebox employs a camera to track players body movement, controller-free. Sound familiar? Microsoft's Kinect is slated to retail for $149, while the Ebox is positioned to be higher than the Wii, but slightly lower than the 360, which is currently at $299.99.
Beijing eedoo Technology Ltd suspects up to 120 million urban Chinese families will potentially purchase the Ebox.
"Our product is designed for family entertainment. Ebox may not have exquisite game graphics, or extensive violence, but it can inspire family members to get off the couch and get some exercise," says Jack Luo, president of eedoo.
