Capcom Vs. Namco Is Street Fighter X Tekken

by Tim Turi on Jul 24, 2010 at 10:33 AM

The rumors are true. Capcom and Namco Bandai have two fighting game crossovers coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the games aren’t focused on incorporating fighters from either publisher’s pedigree, but rather delivering battles with Street Fighter and Tekken characters in 2D and 3D.

At Comic Con, Street Fighter X Tekken (which they want you to call Street Fighter cross Tekken) was revealed in a joint announcement with SF IV producer Yoshinori Ono and Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada. The game will feature both Tekken and Street Fighter characters on a 2D plane with EX-esque super moves and the ink painting art style of SF IV. It's being developed by Capcom.

Attendees of the announcement also received demos of the game. The characters revealed so far are Street Fighter's Ryu and Chun-Li and Tekken’s Nina Williams and Kazuya Mishima. Tagging in mid-combat has also been confirmed as a feature.

The other announced title, Tekken X Street Fighter shares the same concept but changes the gameplay. Here, Street Fighter characters are fighting in Tekken’s turf, so the gameplay features the 3D framework familiar to that series, but this title is being developed by Namco.

These crossover fighting games will be released sometime after Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds falls into the nimble hands of eager fighters next year.

Well, so much for most of our dream matches. This is still very exciting news, though.
