Ubisoft Unleashes FPS-Inspired Laser Tag Kit

by Tim Turi on Jun 14, 2010 at 02:56 PM

Immediately following Shawn White’s appearance on the Ubisoft stage, several models rushed the stage armed with laser tag guns. The opposing factions faced off by firing invisible laser bolts at eachother, coupled with classic sci-fi sound effects and unnecessary cartwheels.

The new product is called Battle Tag, and the goal is to bring shooters to real life. The creator of the hardware claims that this “real life shooter” will combine the simple fun of the Laser Tag you know and love with mechanics from FPSs.
Players can engage in matches of up to 4 vs. 4, complete with stat tracking from Ubisoft. Peripherals such as ammo clips and checkpoints are also included to make the experience feel more like a game. If you decided to pick up a kit, it'll come with four guns and assorted peripherals.

After another demonstration on stage was finished, it was hard to tell exactly what had transpired. It looked about as confusing and awkward as Laser Tag at your local bowling alley, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I’m intrigued. Could this be the Laser Tag kit we dreamed of as children?
