El Shaddai Is Ignition's New Game

The Japanese arm of Ignition Entertainment – the publisher that brought us Muramasa, Nostalgia, and Deadly Premonition here in the U.S. – has a heavenly new action game in the works.

According to the latest issue of Famitsu, El-Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron stars an angel named Enoch, who is literally on a mission from God. Taking a spin on biblical tales, the story also features Lucifer and involves other fallen angels who Enoch will, presumably, have to beat up.

The game is being directed by Sawaki Takeyasu, formerly of Capcom and Clover Studio, and will feature a distinct visual style with an emphasis on a clean, uncluttered onscreen display.

El Shaddai is coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year in Japan, though no U.S. release has been announced.
