Blizzcon 2010 Announced

by Adam Biessener on Mar 25, 2010 at 07:03 AM

What do you have scheduled for October 22-23 of this year? Whatever it is, it's not as awesome as the just-announced BlizzCon 2010, to be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in sunny California. Tickets have not gone on sale yet, but if it's anything like previous years (which were held at the same venue, so it's unlikely that any more tickets will be sold) they'll sell out in no time flat – so keep your browser pointed to the official site if you're set on going.

Like previous BlizzCons, 2010's event will feature hands-on time with upcoming Blizzard games, discussion panels with the developers behind your favorite games, tournaments for both casual and pro gamers, and more merch than you can imagine.

“BlizzCon offers us a great opportunity to meet with our players and share our enthusiasm for gaming with one of the most passionate communities in the world,” said Blizzard co-founder and CEO Mike Morhaime in the press release. “We’re looking forward to providing another great show filled with entertainment, competition, and the latest information about Blizzard Entertainment games.”

Having attended past BlizzCons, I can assure you that they're as awesome as you think they are. The whole event is focused on the fans, with dozens if not hundreds of computers set up for pre-release play sessions, sweet live RTS tournaments with professional commentary, and fascinating inside looks at the decisions behind the company's legendary games. A lot of smoke gets blown in this industry about how developers "really do it all for the fans" and whatnot, but Blizzard puts its money where its mouth is with BlizzCon. It's an amazing experience, even for someone like me who has been doing this professionally for years.

Plus, you get beta codes and exclusive in-game pets! What can compare to that?

There has been a big announcement every year so far at the event. My money's on the announcement of the "unnamed new IP MMO" that we've known about forever, since Cataclysm and StarCraft II should be out or close to it by October and I can't think of anything Diablo III-related that would fit the bill. How about you?
