Sega Sheds Lights On Sonic 4’s First Zone

by Tim Turi on Mar 19, 2010 at 07:10 AM

Fans of Sega’s little blue hedgehog have something ease the wait for Sonic 4 today. Sega updated the official Sonic 4 site to a Splash Hill Zone theme, the first level from the game. Along with that they’ve provided new screens, a Dr. Robotnik Eggman character profile, and the downloadable auditory bliss that is the first Zone’s music.

Need a refresher on the status of Sonic's nemesis following Sonic & Knuckles? Well, the roly-poly doctor's Death Egg plummeted from the sky after he lost control of the Master Emerald, and now it's back to the drawing board. Check out Dr. Eggman's beautifully rendered egg-o-matic, below.

Finally, the handful of new screens show Sonic doing some interesting things in the lush, green intro level. He speeds down walls, executes a homing attack on a power-up after spring jumping, and even flies through the air upside down. Check out the slew of new screens at Sonic 4's official website.

While you're at it, be sure to download the mp3 of the music from Splash Hill Zone. I've been listening to it on repeat and it's toe-tappingly great. Sega and developer Dimps appear to be following through on what Sonic fans have wanted since the mid-'90s.
