Impulse Weekly: P.B. Winterbottom Hunts For Pie, Phoenix Wright Hunts For Justice
This week’s downloadable offerings include a unique original title for Xbox Live Arcade, a much-loved sequel debuting on WiiWare, and yet another SOCOM game for PSP.
If you’ve read our February issue, then you already know the interesting story behind the development of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, but it bears repeating. What began as a strange puzzle/platformer using silent movie-esque visuals for a graduate thesis project was picked up by 2K as part of their new downloadable games initiative. You play the dastardly P.B. Winterbottom, who can record clones of himself in order to aid his never-ending mission to eat every pie in the world -- think Braid-style mind-benders but with a more light-hearted story focused on tasty treats. You’ll be able to find out if the game lives up to its entertaining back-story on Wednesday, February 17 for 800 Microsoft points ($10).
Alternatively, if you’re looking for something a bit more action-packed and haven’t picked up EA’s hit downloadable shooter from the summer yet, Battlefield 1943 is this week’s Xbox Live Deal of the Week. You can grab it any time this week for 800 Microsoft points ($10).
The latest Ace Attorney game, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, is out this week for the DS, but if you’d rather get your lawyer action on the television, Nintendo and Capcom have you covered. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice For All, the second Phoenix Wright game, is now available for download on WiiWare. As with the original’s WiiWare release (pictured below), this is more or less a straight port of the DS version, but if you haven’t experienced the courtroom drama yet or have been looking for a reason to revisit it, check it out on WiiWare now for 1,000 Wii Points ($10).
Finally, PlayStation Network doesn’t have a major new PS3 release this week, but there is a PSP game coming out that a certain group of gamers will be quite excited about: SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3. The latest from Slant Six Games offers full online co-op, an overwhelming number of weapons to choose from, and all the intense tactical action fans of the franchise have come to love. If you’re one of those fans, you can download on PSN beginning Tuesday, February 16 for $39.99 (or if you prefer having a physical copy, you can also pick this one up at retail for the same price).
