New IPs Increase 106 Percent Since 2007
Hot off the heels of Activision’s announcement of DJ Hero being 2009’s highest grossing new IP, The Divnich Debrief is reporting that new IPs are up dramatically in market presence since 2007.
EEDAR revealed that spanning 2006 to 2009, the market share of the 360/PS3/Wii generation swelled from 16 percent to 22 percent. This translates to 61 new franchises in 2007, with 2009 boasting an impressive 126.
In 2007 we were playing new IPs such as Portal and Mass Effect, in 2008 we were playing LittleBigPlanet and Dead Space, and in 2009 we were playing Borderlands and Batman: Arkham Asylum. With the influx of fresh games properties on the rise, now is a great time to be a gamer.
