EA Already Talking Dante’s Inferno Sequel
In the gaming industry commercial success almost always dictates a sequel – whether or not the narrative woven in the first title warrants one. So it may not come as a surprise that those behind Dante’s Inferno are already talking about a second iteration, well before the first even hits retail.
Chatting with Inferno’s executive producer Jonathan Knight, G4 questioned the probability of a sequel.
“This [speaking on polishing Dante's Inferno] is just totally what our focus is,” Knight told G4, “and then we're gonna [finish] around the holidays and then everybody's gonna take a long break and we're gonna see if people respond well to it in February -- which I think they will.”
While there is obviously more source material to draw from – Dante’s Inferno being the first act of three that encompass the Divine Comedy – we’re not sure that the tale of Purgatorio lends itself to Inferno’s frantic action. Knight seems to recognize the obstacle.
“That is a problem I hope to have to solve by earning the right to do a follow up,” said Knight.
It’s obvious that Knight is excited by the challenge, and hopeful that sales will allow Visceral Games to move forward with the second act. But is a follow-up feasible? Visceral hasn’t been afraid to take creative liberties, as evidenced by their take on the Inferno. But does the Mount of Purgatory boast enough action and intrigue? Can the terraces of Purgatory play host to such brutal gameplay?
