New Super Mario Bros. Wii Japan’s Biggest Selling Wii Title

In just one week of sales in Japan, Nintendo’s portly plumber has set a new record for the Wii. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold 936,734 units, making it the biggest Wii debut ever in Mario's country of birth.
Mario’s newest installment usurps previous top-sales holder for the Wii, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Brawl held the top of the charts at 816,000 since its Japanese release in January, 2008. The sales figures come from Japanese magazine Famitsu, as translated by Kotaku.
With Mario and Modern Warfare 2 topping the sales charts, it’s inevitable to compare the games. Which will eventually outsell the other? Gamasutra reports analytic speculation that NSMB may actually overtake Modern Warfare 2’s overall sales, projecting Mario’s lifetime impact at 15 million units sold.
