Miyamoto: Nintendo’s Next Console Likely Smaller And Cheaper

Legendary industry figure Shigeru Miyamoto recently spoke with Popular Mechanics regarding everything from his favorite Nintendo character to the future of gaming. Within the interview, the father of Mario mentioned a few interesting details regarding Nintendo’s next console.

When asked whether Nintendo would continue to use motion-control with consoles following up the Wii, Miyamoto responded that the current system found a sweet spot with a broad audience and an affordable price-tag.

“And while we don't have any concrete plans for what we'll be doing with hardware in the future,” Miyamoto continued, “what I can say is that, my guess is that because we found this interface to be so interesting, I think it would be likely that we would try to make that same functionality perhaps more compact and perhaps even more cost-efficient.”

Is this simply the long awaited Wii HD that Miyamoto is talking about, or is he mentioning an entirely new console? Regardless, does a down-scaled, affordable system sound like what you want from Nintendo?

Also, Miyamoto’s favorite character is Mario, followed closely by the Goomba.
