Mario’s Dead?

Captain Lou Albano, wrestler and manager for the WWF, who also appeared in Cyndi Lauper videos and played Mario on the Saturday morning live-action The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! passed away of natural causes Wednesday at age 76.

During a discussion with Shigeru Miyamoto, former Newsweek tech writer, N’Gai Croal, asked Mario’s creator: “Where were you when you heard that Captain Lou Albano passed away and what was your reaction?”

Nintendo’s Bill Trinen translated the question for Miyamoto. After a long, silent pause, Miyamoto responded to Trinen, who in English told the interviewer: “You’re the one who just told me.”
