WoW Rated In Australia
Gamespot's Australian division is reporting that World of Warcraft has finally received a rating from the Aussie government's Classification Board. Though the game has been sold down under for nearly five years, this brings it more comfortably under Australian law, which states that games must carry a rating in order to be sold in the country.
Up until now, the online nature of MMOs somehow caused titles in the genre to not meet the Classification Board's strict legal definition of a computer game, thus allowing them to be offered in stores despite not being rated. The Classification Board has not commented on how its internal definitions have changed to effect this difference in policy, but it would seem that MMOs will join the rest of the industry under the smothering embrace of Australia's loving bureaucracy.
