The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

We were all fools to assume that Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment would simply slap a “2” on the title of the massive hit movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and call it a day for the sequel. Instead, the follow-up Mario Bros. movie is titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is an exciting prospect for fans like me who still consider Galaxy and Galaxy 2 to be the pinnacle of Mario’s 3D adventures. When introducing the teaser for the film during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto asked the rhetorical question, “What kinds of adventures do you think Mario and his friends will have in space?”

The movie is planned for release in April 2026 (a full year and one month before the launch date of the planned live-action Zelda movie) and is apparently the “main event” of the celebrations surrounding the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise and characters.
