[Final Update] Take A Break From The Mayhem With The UnderGarden

by Jeff Cork on Nov 21, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Last week, Atari released the UnderGarden on Xbox Live Arcade and PC. It kind of flew under the radar, which is understandable. This is a busy time of year for games, and if you don't have a number in your name it's easy to gte ignored. That's a shame in this case, though, because the UnderGarden is kind of great.

You can see the game in action in the trailer below, but here's what you need to know: It's relaxing, it's gorgeous, and it's adorable. You're a weird little sea monkey dude, and you pollinate undersea life and solve puzzles. Stabbing people in the eye sockets and destroying entire planets is great and all, but sometimes it's fun to play a game that just lets you chill out for a while.

[Update 11/21] OK, you can pretty much ignore the next few paragraphs. I'll leave them there for the sake of posterity, but I'm all out of codes. Thanks to all who entered--there was a lot of great stuff, and I wish I had more codes. I always thing it sounds lame when someone says "Oh, it was tough picking a winner blah blah blah you lose but feel good about yourself anyway," but it's kind of true this time. Especially the blah blah blah parts. Anyway, I was a little overwhelmed by the quality of the PC stuff, especially since I only had two codes to give away on that platform. Winners have been notified, so if you see your picture below, check your e-mail already. Thanks again everyone for helping me stay awake/sane over the weekend shift. Whew!

Anyway, I've got some codes to give away this weekend. Rather than do something lame like dole 'em out to the first five commenters or something, I though it might be fun to get a little creative. Here's what you have to do if you want to get a code: draw me a purdy picture of an underwater garden. OK, it doesn't have to be that purdy. It can be funny, scary, silly--whatever. Use MS Paint, use Photoshop, use crayons and scan your picture in--whatever. When you're done, e-mail me your work of art to jeff@gameinformer.com. I've got five XBLA codes to give away and a couple of PC ones, too. If you could let me know which one you'd prefer when you send your creation, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'll pick a few winners today and a few tomorrow, and post the winning entries here. So...get moving.

Meanwhile, you can check out the Undergarden demo on Xbox Live here.

[Update 11/20] All right! I've picked out the first batch of winners. This may make things a little easier for tomorrow's entrants--you can see that this isn't necessarily an art contest. Send something especially funny/clever/interesting and you're likely to get a code. See you tomorrow! Here are three of today's winners. Codes have been sent, so if you see your pic, check your e-mail. Thanks, and keep 'em coming!
