Military Bases Won't Stock Medal Of Honor, With Or Without Taliban

by Jeff Cork on Oct 06, 2010 at 03:09 AM

Last Friday, EA announced that it would be pulling Taliban references from Medal of Honor's multiplayer mode out of respect for members of the U.S. armed forces. That same rationale was used by the military when representatives said that the game wouldn't be available for sale on military bases through the Army & Air Force Exchange Service. The decision to not stock Medal of Honor at AAFES locations was made before EA changed Taliban to "Opposing Force." Has that change affected the military's policy? Nope.

"Out of respect to those touched by the ongoing, real-life events presented as a game, Exchanges will not be carrying this product," AAFES's Commander Maj. Gen. Bruce Casella told Kotaku. "While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, our position is consistent with the direction stated a month ago. I expect the military families who are authorized to shop the Exchange are aware, and understanding, of the decision not to carry this particular offering."

Obviously, service members can still buy the game and play it. They'll just have to venture off site to get their Medal of Honor fixes.
