Analyst Says Kinect Could Sell 4M Units In Q4

by Jeff Cork on Aug 13, 2010 at 04:34 AM

Microsoft’s Kinect might be taking a different path from the company’s hardcore-courting foundation, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be successful. At least, that’s what at least one analyst is thinking.

Colin Sebastian, from Lazard Capital Markets, has adjusted his groups fourth-quarter sales expectations from 3 million units worldwide to 4 million. Some of the reasons behind the optimism include an increase in Microsoft’s production capabilities and expectations of a massive advertising campaign.

The unit’s $149 price remains a sticking point, though Sebastian seems to think that the $299 bundle is a better value. Sebastian says that $99 would be the “sweet spot” as he puts it, and the amount of units that Microsoft is manufacturing leads him to believe that the company could have discount promotions for Kinect as early as next year.
