Final Fantasy XIII Freezing

by Joe Juba on Mar 16, 2010 at 01:02 PM

If you're experiencing some technical difficulties with your copy of Final Fantasy XIII, you aren't alone. Some users are reporting freezes, crashes, and other bugs in Square Enix's latest RPG.

According to this thread on the PlayStation forums, the issues seem to predominantly affect the old 40 and 60 GB versions of the PlayStation 3 (though PS3 Slim and Xbox 360 gamers have experienced problems as well). The source of the glitches isn't apparent, and no easy fix seems to be available.

While this is terrible news for gamers who have been waiting years to play Final Fantasy XIII, the problem doesn't currently appear to be widespread. I didn't experience any of these hiccups while playing the game for review, and other GI staffers who are currently playing the game (on 360 and PS3 alike) haven't encountered any game-breaking freezes or crashes.

We have a call in to Sony about the issue, so we'll post any updates to the story as it develops.

What about you? Is Final Fantasy XIII functioning as it should on your system?
